What Happens To All The Old Magazines That Are Pulled Off Store Displays At the End of Each Month?

Does anyone know if I can buy them at a discount (or get them free)?

1. I believe those merchants send back the unsold magazines to their distributor or publisher so they can get credit for the unsold copies..
2. Normally, the covers are ripped off the magazine, and are returned to the distributor for a credit to the vendor returning them. The rest of the magazine is then destroyed
