Why should it cost so much less to send an American magazine to America, than a British magazine to Britain? Rolling stone including postage is 28p per magazine. Q magazine is over £3 per magazine. There is such a gulf between these prices. I realise that the cost of consumer goods varies between the US and UK, but not to such a degree. I am curious why magazines in particular are subject to such a large difference in prices.

Air and Space Smithsonian magazine subscription? It's time for me to reup on my Air and Space. For the last few months they've been trying to get me to sign back up for $26 for a year (6 issues since it's published every other month). If I wait a bit longer will they offer me a better rate? A few years ago I saw on Ebay that you coudl subscribe to pretty much any magazine out there for next to nothing. It was because the publishers wanted to you have you on their subscribers list, that way they could charge advertisers more. (the cost of the magazine really didn't factor in as long as they made more on you as a subscriber). I subscribed to Blender for 4 years for (get this) $2! I also added in a year's worth of Playboy for $5 I believe. I just checked and saw that there's hardly any more of these for sale on Ebay...anybody know why?
